Use a damp cloth and some detergent (washing-up liquid will work well) and wash down the entire door, removing all dirt. If your door gets dirty quite easily then you can also apply a thin layer of car wax to it to keep the dirt away for longer.

If you happen to have a wooden garage door it is worthwhile giving it a new lick of paint as and when necessary. But don’t leave it until it’s too late. Try to repaint it before the old paint has started to chip off. Once water has got in to the wood it may be a more difficult problem to fix.
